Sino-US Cultural Exchange Scholarship 2016

 

The Sino-US Cultural Exchange Scholarship has been set up by the Chinese Government to welcome more US students to study in China.  The aims of this scholarship are to increase Sino-US exchange and cooperation in the field of education, and to strengthen dialogue between youth of the two countries. Details of the application procedure are as follows:

 

1. Eligibility

1.1  Applicants must be American citizens in good health;

1.2  Applicants should be high school graduates under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs;

Applicants should be bachelor’s degree holders under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;

Applicants should be master’s degree holders under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;

1.3 Applicants should not be a registered student in Chinese universities at the time of application or be a graduate from Chinese universities.

1.4 Applicants should not hold a scholarship of any other category from the Chinese government.

2. Application deadline: April 25, 2016
3. Award details

3.1 Exemption from tuition fee;

3.2 On- campus accommodation;

3.3 Living stipend (Undergraduate students 2500 RMB/month, Masters students 3000 RMB/month, Doctorate students 3500 RMB/month);

3.4 Outpatient medical fee (the outpatient expense in the University’s hospital or the hospitals appointed by the University) and Chinese Government Scholarship Foreign Students Medical Insurance (800 RMB/person/year).

4. Application documents:

4.1 Chinese Government Scholarship Application form for International Students with recent photo;

4.2 Degree certificate, diploma or official proof of expected graduation (the diploma or certificate must be in Chinese or English with official school stamps or a notarized version in Chinese or English);

4.3 Related transcripts (the original must be in Chinese or English with official stamps );

4.4 Language certificate: For Chinese-taught programs, applicants should hold new HSK 4 or old HSK 5 certificate. (If applicants’ academic performance meets the program requirement, but they do not hold an HSK certificate, they should attend one year of pre-degree language course before starting their degree program).

4.5 Copy of passport;

4.6 Application fee (400 RMB) :proof of payment.

Applicant applying for master’s or PhD program should also hold the following documents:

4.7 Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors (in Chinese or English);

4.8 Statement of purpose - Around 1000 words for master’s degree candidates; around 1500 words for doctoral candidates. Topics to cover: study and work experience, academic research results, planned research proposals and personal development objectives after graduation;

4.9. Catalog and abstracts of published papers, as well as other documents that can prove academic ability。

  1. Application procedure

Step 1: Consult the program introduction and select majors to apply for;

Step 2: Transfer the application fee (400 RMB/person) to SMU bank account;

Step 3: Fill in the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form and prepare all the required documents ;

Step 4: Send photocopies of all required documents to huali@shmtu.edu.cn, and then mail the original documents to SMU campus. (These documents will not be returned to students).
